PERRIE JAMES GETS A NEW COAT OF PAINT
I say it was my husband’s idea. He says it was mine. I am not sure anymore, but either way we are painting our house. Luckily it’s not a big house and only one story. But that one story is tall and there’s two gables that are a little tricky.
I keep telling myself we’re saving thousands of dollars and that even if it takes us a month to do I make way less in a month than it costs to have your house painted so we’re up, right?
Right. Just go with that. It’s too late to turn back.
Our house is old. No one knows the exact date it was built, but they say 1886 or 1888. It’s had some work done over the years and it’s going to need more. For now a fresh coat of paint is going to spruce it up and help protect that outer layer.
There’s some caulking and board replacement that needs to be done, but not too much. We’re skipping full shutter rebuilds for now as we don’t open them anyway. That alone is months of work so we will just paint the exterior and save a rebuild for another day.
When I started painting the shutters I was really torn. I love all the peeling paint and rust. I mean, c’mon that’s what I am always painting on my canvases! I even debated a clear coat to just cover all the old paint as it was. But I also love the color of the paint—the solid saturated color that is so satisfying. So I went ahead with my brush, but I did leave a little rust on the hinges 😉
Here’s a few more progress pictures of the process, but I am happy to say that we’ve been able to put the brushes down. Perrie James ( Perrie because that’s his color and James is all our middle names now ) has a new coat of paint.
