2015 NOLA: My version of a residency
I've never had a blog before, but I thought I'd give it a try and start with the beginning of the year. Here goes...
My husband and I decided to create our own version of a residency and go back to our second home city of New Orleans. So in January, we—along with our cat (Dr. Girlfriend) and our duck (Gus) —loaded up art supplies, packed our bags and headed out. We rented a house from a friend for two months in the Irish Channel. Every day I would paint and my husband wrote. In the later afternoon we'd go for a bike ride up to the levee or out to the park, maybe to a game of shuffleboard and then for a drink.
We were there for Mardi Gras season, so I have to admit that painting slowed down a bit for a week. I love hearing marching band practice in the streets. We attended many a parade, caught armfuls of throws and enjoyed spending time with our friends. If you haven't been to New Orleans for Mardi Gras season, I highly recommend it. It's not the catastrophe you've heard about on Bourbon Street ( although I guess it could be if that's what you wanted ).
The topper of the season? I got to ride in Muses this year!
I came back to Seattle with quite a few finished paintings.
And a bit of a wig obsession....but that's another post.
