BAMBOO-OOOOM!
So there was a big windstorm in our New Orleans neighborhood. It blew down the 30’ tall clumping bamboo that lived between our house and the neighbor’s at the back of our driveway. It took a few things down with it (security camera, fence, gate and lights) but miraculously did no other damage to either house. And it’s not like they’re all that far apart!
We always wanted it removed because it blew in the wind, scraped the houses and blocked our back gate from even opening—but planned to put that off as it seemed like it was going to be quite an undertaking. Little did we know that all we had to do was wait and let Mother Nature take over as head landscaper.
Luckily we have great neighbors who called and told me (remember, my security camera suddenly went out so I had no idea) —and an awesome real life landscaper who came to my rescue from afar. Within two days all the bamboo was chopped into bundles, my fence—well, what was left of it—was uprighted.
PART 2. Now the fence needed to be replaced.
It was also on that list of things we’ll get to, but now it went up a few notches in priority. I mean, you can’t just use garbage cans as a fence and expect that to keep things in. Or out.
But first we’d have to take an old rotten tree down. This tree had a lot a lot of personality, but was also in the habit of dropping limbs. Not cool tree. Not cool.
So down comes the tree and down comes the fence (I would like to point out that we saved the slats we could to bring over to cousin Liz’s house in Mississippi. For something. We’re not sure about that yet. but I digress).
Next comes the fence! What a huge difference this made in our backyard and driveway. Let us just admire the work…
