THANKSGIVING DAY AT THE TRACK
Happy Thanksgiving!
Opening day at the race track in New Orleans is Thanksgiving Day and aside from watching the horses, everyone wears hats and drinks mint Juleps. This Thanksgiving we all met here. Our niece Addie flew in from school at WSU in Pullman, Washington. Kara and Brett had been down in the Keys and drove up. Once everyone was here, we made a hat plan, made the hats, and prepared our Thanksgiving feast.
We headed over to Virginia’s house in the morning and then to the track. We bet a little and mostly lost, but nobody was really paying attention. The sun was out. The hats were out. And we were at the rail petting horses.
After a pit stop at Marcelle and Sam’s to say hello and leave Virginia with her family we headed home to eat. The rest of the day was full of traditional-yet-not-so-traditional snacks.
Meanwhile, 3000 miles away, mom and Richard’s cat Tom E. Baker waited patiently for his Thanksgiving to be served.
